Brassy
She Who Boldly Dazzled Alone A Beacon for Those to Find a Home
She was born gilded, a twin daughter of Oshún herself ~ cradled in golden waters, kissed with shimmer and song.
But the sea has tempers no crown can calm.
As Yamaya held them close, a storm split the reef, and a wave tore Brassy from their arms.
In one flash of thunder and tide, she was gone.
No one could find her.
Not Yamaya. Not even Oshún.
But Brassy lived.
Carried by fate through the deep, she grew far from the Dynasea of her birth ~ with no memory of her name, her lineage, or her crown. She believed she was the only one.
The only mermaid like her.
So she made herself unforgettable.
She adorned her tail in shipwrecked rhinestones, crowned herself in coral and brass.
She laughed with dolphins, danced with rays, and ruled her own ocean ~ loud, proud, and still alone.
Until one day… she wasn’t.
While searching for treasure, Brassy spotted a shimmer — another mermaid. And not just any mermaid. Her twin.
Same Afro. Same flowered crown. Same jeweled tail. Brassy wept and screamed ~ not in fear, but in recognition.
Her sister hesitated… then took her hand.
And swam her home.
Yamaya pulled her in, no questions. Just knowing. She saw the ache and whispered the words Brassy had longed to hear:
“You were never meant to be alone.”
Now Brassy swims as beacon and guide ~ finding every soul who still believes they are the only one.
And to each, she sings:
“You’ll never swim alone no more.”
