DFW Fae Folk 🧚🏾 Merfolk 🧜🏾♀️
And Other Mythical Creatures
DFW Fae Folk is an online Facebook community created and lovingly led by Clover Jené Mermaid, centered on fantasy, creativity, and connection ~ brought to life through gatherings in the wild across the Dallas~Fort Worth area.
The group centers people of color and underrepresented beings in fantasy, while welcoming respectful allies. It is an OC~forward space, celebrating original characters, personal lore, and imaginative self-expression ~ not franchise cosplay.
We use the group to build community and organize gatherings in the wild, including ren fairs, photo meetups, themed outings, and fantasy-focused holidays like Black Fae Day, BIPOC Vampire Day, and Black MerMay Day.
Rooted in joy, safety, and mutual respect, this is a space to grow together ~ with love and intention, not competition.

Black, Indigenous, & POC Vampire Day
#BIPOCVampDay began in September 2021 when creator Black Bettie Cosplay (aka J) was inspired by the success of Black Fae Day (created by Jasmine La Fleur) earlier that year. Much like Black Fae Day, BIPOC Vampire Day was an event focused on representation ~ because despite vampiric folklore existing in every culture around the world ~ the media showcasing vampires is often incredibly Euro-centric or pale. Determined to prove that vampires can be more diverse, they invited their fellow BIPOC vampires (and all vampire fans) to come out to play. And they came out in full force ~ showcasing their original characters, art, cosplay, books/movies/games all weekend in a stunning spectacle. And better yet, the fledgeling event raised $2.9k in its first year.
Black MerMay Day
May has been traditionally MerMay And it’s A time where we get to see an uptick in all the amazing Mermaid art, photos, images, but, we rarely see black faces depicted in this work.
We look to change that! One Black MerMay Day weekend, Show out on The last weekend in May with all your Mermaid/Merman/Mersona Or any underwater creature, you prefer, Regalia! We can’t wait!
