PENDA LÚ | Yemaya’s Hidden Pearl

Penda Lú, a Black mermaid with rich brown skin, a shimmering pink and green mermaid tail adorned with pearls. A one-of-a-kind Afro Mermaid fantasy statue celebrating Black mermaids, magical artistry, and inclusive fantasy.

Penda Lú

Yamaya’s Hidden Pearl. Silent Watcher of Whispering Ocean Currents.

She was found not in battle, nor begging to belong ~ but gliding in sunlight near the reefs of Mozambique.

Where oysters gathered in ancient beds, and pearl dust sparkled beneath playful fish, she floated ~ half-hidden, half-home.

She didn’t hide because she feared. She hid because she enjoyed it. A joy found only in silence, in the hush between sunlight and salt.

Yamaya saw her.

Had been watching her. But on one fateful day, when fishermen cast their nets to pry pearls from the sea, one caught more than they bargained for.

It is said the trap snagged only the tip of her tail… but it dragged sharp metal across her chest, cutting deep into her right side ~ and tearing into the lungs that once breathed sunlight.

Yamaya rose, rushing in foam and fury to save her, and carried Penda Lu to the heart of the Oshún Dynasea.

There, she was healed.

Welcomed.

Adored.

But even among royalty, she remained quiet. Watching. Listening. Still basking in the hush of the in-between.
And that is when it happened.

A stranger arrived ~ all glimmer and grace, bearing gifts too grand for their story. The others celebrated. But Penda Lú watched with stillness behind her eyes.

She spoke.

One sentence.

No anger, no accusation ~ just truth.

The shimmer cracked.

Their disguise fell away.

And the danger hidden in beauty was revealed.

It was then Yamaya understood:

Penda Lu sees.

Not with suspicion, but with still water. Not to accuse, but to unmask. To reveal what lies beneath the polished shell ~ and whisper the names of those who glow… or deceive.

Though she returned to her reef, to bask between current and cloud, she is never far.

When the Dynasea needs clarity, when illusions shimmer too sweet, it is her who is called. To know. To reveal truth or light, Darkness or Spite.
